New Video Explains Benefits of Fire

You can now learn about fighting fire with fire through a short, online video.

Texas A&M Forest Service Director Tom Boggus says not all fire is bad fire, and a fifteen minute, newly released video uses beautiful Texas footage to explain how fires are part of the Texas ecosystem and how prescribed fires can improve land and give protection.

Boggus says controlled fires burn away the underbrush that has grown too thick or tall, making grazing easier for deer and other wildlife, but also clearing out brush that would ignite in a wildfire.

Boggus says one of the video’s most dramatic moments is a comparison between areas that regularly had controlled burns versus those that didn’t in Bastrop, which was devastated by wildfires in 2011.
