New Tourism Signage Moves Forward Following CS Council Approval

Another joint project of the twin cities is ready to start.

The College Station City Council Thursday night approved its share of paying for new signage designed to aid visitors.

Councilwoman Julie Schultz says the signs “will absolutely generate more tax revenue.”

Raised voices preceded the 6-1 vote. Karl Mooney responded to Jess Fields statement that the signs weren’t needed because motorists could use GPS and smartphone map apps.

Fields, who voted no, also wanted evidence the signs would generate more lodging guests.

Funding comes from the hotel occupancy tax. College Station’s share is $256,000 thousand dollars for the signs and $12,800 annually for maintenance.

The Bryan City Council previously approved spending $144,000 for signage and $7,200 annually for maintenance.
