New Texas Graduation Requirements

Texas schools were notified earlier this week that the Texas Education Commissioner has decided to immediately implement changes to graduation requirements.

Click to hear WTAW’s Chris Clift talk with Bryan ISD’s Communications Director Sandy Farris:

Credit requirements in both technology and health are being eliminated.

The requirement for PE credits has been reduced to 1.0 credit (down from 1.5).

The Bryan ISD Board of Trustees will have to vote on whether they want to keep technology, health and PE credits in their graduation requirements.

Farris says that meeting is likely to happen sometime next week.

No word yet on when the new requirements will come before the College Station ISD Board of Trustees.

The changes are intended to free up more credits to be used as electives, but the total number of credits required to graduate is no different.

Members of the class of 2010 need at least 24 credits, while all following classes will need at least 26.
