Thursday’s Texas A&M system board of regents meeting included two appointments.
The board named Dr. Amy Swinford as the sole finalist to become director of the Texas A&M Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory.
Regents also appointed Dr. Y.A. “Joe” Elabd as interim vice chancellor for research at the Texas A&M System. Elabd, who had been associate dean for research in the Texas A&M College of Engineering, replaces Dr. Jon Mogford, who has been named to lead the Texas A&M Health Science Center.
Earlier in the week, the system’s AgriLife vice chancellor’s office announced a new position for a former Texas A&M president and dean of the college of agriculture. Elsa Murano, who was A&M’s president in 2008 and 2009, becomes associate vice chancellor for strategic academic initiatives. This is after Dr. Murano served nine years as director of A&M’s Borlaug Institute for international agriculture. Murano takes over for Susan Baliabina, who joined the flagship campus as a vice president for academic and strategic partnerships.
