Bryan school district administrators have told the school board what steps are being taken to address an academically underperforming elementary school.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis announced Monday the new principal at Milam is Hugo Ibarra.

Dr. Ibarra is transferring from Navarro, where he was principal the last four years. Before that, he was an assistant principal at Bryan High.

Dr. Wallis says parents and others living around the school will be called on to assist struggling students.

Wallis expects this will be the second consecutive year Milam will be rated by the state as a campus requiring improvement.

With Ibarra’s transfer, administrators are looking for a new principal at Navarro.

It is considered a two year assignment because the Milam building is slated to become the home of the Mary Catherine Harris alternative high school.
