New Information Results in Opposition to Proposed Trail in West Bryan

Since January 2014, Bryan city councilman Rafael Pena has attempted to turn a dirt foot path on private property into an official hike and bike trail connecting an apartment complex near the county jail and the street leading to Kemp school.

New information revealed during a council workshop Tuesday resulted in opposition from two members.

Chuck Konderla says there are three strikes against the project from Forest Park apartments to Saunders Street. One is the property owners don’t want to donate the land, another is the Bryan school district having a bus provide transportation to and from the apartments, and the owner of the apartments leaving a gate open to the dirt path on private property because of past damage.

Mayor Jason Bienski reminded Pena and other supporters to prioritize projects they have sought in next year’s budget, including the addition of code enforcement officers and improvements to East Martin Luther King, Jr. Street.

Bryan police report over the last 30 days there have been no children using the well worn path that goes through private property.
