A local lawyer is developing a new academic success program that aims to help kids through an unusual strategy.
Read By Three Director Daniel Hernandez says starting this October, a total of thirty families at Anson Jones and Ben Milam elementary schools will participate, but this program is unique because it doesn’t focus exclusively on curriculum.
Hernandez, who was inspired by his own family’s journey from poverty to success, says the goal is to create a better understanding between schools and parents, and get parents involved with their children’s learning.
Hernandez says, “Our emphasis will be the families. That’s what we’re going to work on, because that’s the most vitally important institution in our society. I think we’ve missed that over the years in our efforts to educate our children, and we’ve taken away the role that the parents can play, or we’ve not emphasized it enough.”
He says Read By Third will put some responsibility back on the parents to help their children learn while equipping them for success, broadening their vision, and providing a network.
Hernandez says the program is seeking sponsors and those interested in joining as volunteers and net-workers.
