New Big Tex Will Have a New Voice

DALLAS (AP) _ Big Tex is getting a new look at next year’s Texas State Fair _ and a new voice.

The longtime voice of the iconic 52-foot-tall cowboy welcoming visitors tells KRLD-AM in Dallas that his contract wasn’t renewed. Bill Bragg served as Big Tex’s voice for the last 11 years.

Bragg says he’s “shocked” by the decision.

State Fair spokeswoman Sue Gooding said in a statement that Bragg’s contract is handled from year to year, and that Bragg won’t be offered a contract for the upcoming season.

She declined to specify what, if anything, led to the change.

Big Tex burned down during last year’s fair due to an electrical short.

Fair organizers say they’re planning a new cowboy that’s stronger and more resistant to fire.
