Sgt. J. Michael Johnson has been promoted to the position of Assistant Chief of Police for Support Services for the Texas A&M University Police Department (UPD).

Johnson, a 21-year law enforcement veteran, will assume his new duties on July 1.

“We are excited about Mike Johnson becoming our new assistant chief. His personality, leadership abilities and wealth of experience in university law enforcement will be a major benefit to the department’s Support Services Division,” said Texas A&M Police Chief J. Michael Ragan.

He has extensive experience in law enforcement serving as a patrol field training officer and a police officer with UPD as well as service with Brazos County Sheriff’s Office.

“I am very excited about the new position and I will continue to be a highly dedicated and motivated employee,” Johnson said. “I will keep the mission of the organization as my main focus and am eager to work with the Support Services Division in my new role as we work to keep Texas A&M University a safe environment for students, staff, faculty and visitors.” “We have a department of dedicated employees, and I am very proud of the work we do each and every day,” he added.
