Need For Mental Health Services In The Brazos Valley Expressed During Mental Health Awareness Month Proclamation

A shortage of funding for mental health services was among the messages from remarks by two speakers after a proclamation was presented by Brazos County and the twin cities for May’s mental health awareness month.

Dr. Carly McCord, the clinical director of Texas A&M’s Telehealth clinic, provided an update on services that are provided at five offices in the Brazos Valley.

Julie Overstreet, who is the outreach director for NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Brazos Valley, told commissioners the local shortage of mental health professionals is almost five times greater than the national average.
