Retired talk show host Neal Boortz, whose first radio job was at WTAW while he was attending Texas A&M (Class of 1967), is spending the weekend in Aggieland.
Boortz, who stepped away in 2013 after 42 years on the radio, and his wife have spent time in their motorcoach as well as travelling overseas.
Boortz has used his Twitter account (@Talkmaster) to post where they have visited. He says the number of Twitter followers has increased by 50,000 since he retired to almost 175,000. And the response to his tweets “has been gratifying” to the point that followers are changing their financial behavior so they can travel when they retire.
Boortz says “keep your health, keep some of your money, and then when you’re through working do those things you had to put off for so long.”
While he is not on live radio, Boortz has a subscription-based podcast that he says “would not be airable on radio and would not viewed in a positive manner by the FCC. Finally, I can say exactly what I want to say, especially about Obama.”
While his itinerary is centered around Saturday’s Texas A&M football game, Boortz teased about going to his first Midnight Yell. He said he never attended Midnight Yell as a student because “I was always on some sort of restriction…but not now!”.
