INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ The NCAA has given Baylor women’s basketball coach Kim Mulkey a one-game suspension for criticizing the officiating following her team’s loss to Louisville in the national championship tournament earlier this year.
The NCAA also issued a public reprimand Tuesday and said it was withholding Baylor’s team championship per diem from the regional round.
After Louisville knocked off top-seeded Baylor, Mulkey said the game was too physical and that more tournament work by the three officials would be “be sad for the game.”
Mulkey will have to sit out a game during her next NCAA tournament appearance.
The NCAA said it was issuing a more severe penalty because Mulkey was reprimanded in 2011 for criticizing the NCAA tournament bracket. She also lost an undisclosed championship per diem allowance.
