35 Arrests In And Around The Northgate District During And After Texas A&M Football’s Win Over LSU

Arrest reports from College Station and Texas A&M police shows 35 arrests in and around the Northgate district during and after A&M’s football win over LSU. 19 went to jail for public intoxication, five for disorderly conduct, two for minor in possession of alcohol, two for interfering with public duties, two for giving a false name, and one for furnishing alcohol to a minor. Two pedestrians went to jail for walking across the street when they did not have walk signal. A third pedestrian was ticketed but their companion was one of those arrested for interfering with public duties by preventing the offender from signing the ticket, which does not admit guilt but promises the offender will appear in court. There was also an arrest on a reckless driving charge. The CSPD arrest report said the driver of a Dodge Challenger eluded officers in Northgate after the bars closed Friday night and just before the bars closed Saturday night. After eluding officers on Saturday night, the driver crashed a short time later on Wellborn Road in Bryan. 23 year old Carlos Martinez III of Bryan went to jail for the fourth time since May 2024. He is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $8,000 dollars on new charges of reckless driving and evading arrest. At the time of his latest arrest, Martinez is accused of violating probation after admitting to aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that took place in December 2020. A replica of the Stanley Cup hockey trophy is the deadly weapon that a College Station police arrest report says was used by a customer at a Northgate bar to injure two employees. One of the workers had a cut on the left side of her head and the other believed she may have a concussion. 27 year old Morgan Smith of Bryan was arrested on two counts of aggravated assault with the stainless steel trophy and disorderly conduct. As of Monday (October 28), Smith remains jailed in lieu of bonds totaling $60,000 dollars.

Formal Installation Of Mark Welsh As Texas A&M’s 27th President

The formal installation of Mark Welsh as Texas A&M’s 27th president took place Friday morning (October 25). Welsh said when he was first asked to do an investiture ceremony, he “gave it a pretty flat no”. Then he learned it was a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages and he said “Aggies value tradition.” Welsh also said the ceremony is more about the university, adding the president’s job is an opportunity and a challenge to earn the trust of A&M’s faculty, the confidence of the staff, the respect of current and former students, and the support of the A&M system leadership, the board of regents, and the legislature. Welsh said “accepting that challenge publicly holds me accountable. And I do believe in accountability.” Welsh recognized his parents. His father was an Aggie who fought in World War two, Korea, and Vietnam. His mother raised seven children while working as an elementary school teacher. Introducing Welsh was his daughter, Liz Beechinor, A&M class of 2010. Symbols of the investiture, the university mace and a medallion, were presented by A&M system chancellor John Sharp. Congressman Michael McCaul, whose wife and three of their children are A&M graduates, presented Welsh with a congressional resolution. Also speaking were A&M system board of regents chairman Bill Mahomes, A&M faculty senate speaker Angie Hill Price, university staff council chairwoman Kat McLelland, and provost Alan Sams. Bryan ISD School Board Recognizes Two On Campus Lifesaving Rescues

The Bryan ISD school board recognizes two on campus lifesaving rescues that have taken place during the fall semester. Rudder High principal Rachel Leighton shared the response of what happened in August, when an unconscious man was found in a parked vehicle. The man, who had delivered an ID for a Rudder student, had been in the vehicle for three hours during 100 degree temperatures. Bryan High principal Lane Buban shared the response of what happened in September when a substitute teacher became unconscious. The man who was rescued at Rudder was among those at Monday’s board meeting (October 21) presenting gifts to those who were involved.
