Navasota Police Chase Into College Station Due To Stolen And Forged Checks

Three people from Ft. Worth were in a vehicle involved in a chase Wednesday evening that began in Navasota and ended in south College Station.

According to a Navasota police news release, three people inside a flatbed truck confessed to stealing checks from a mailbox belonging to a business south of Navasota.

Two of the three people were arrested for forging the checks and attempting to cash them at a Navasota bank.

As officers arrived at the Prosperity Bank on Washington Avenue, the flatbed truck sped away.

The pursuit went from Navasota to Anderson, back to Navasota, then north on Highway 6 to the William D. Fitch exit.

Navasota PD was assisted by Grimes County sheriffs deputies, DPS troopers, and officers from the Bryan and College Station police departments.

The driver, 40 year old Derek Whitehead, and one of the passengers, 20 year old Justice Vargas, were arrested. A second passenger was released.

Navasota PD reports officers found several other stolen checks inside the truck belonging to victims in other cities.
