INDIANAPOLIS – Texas A&M’s Nathan Hite has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship by the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship Committee. The NCAA awards up to 126 postgraduate scholarships annually to student-athletes who excel academically and athletically.
The NCAA postgraduate scholarships are awarded three times a year corresponding to each sport season (fall, winter and spring). In each sports season there are 21 scholarships available for men and 21 scholarships available for women for use in an accredited graduate program.
Earlier this season Hite was named the SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which also included a postgraduate scholarship, and he earned Texas A&M’s Bill Erwin Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor for a second consecutive year.
Hite, who graduated in Mechanical Engineering with a 3.97 GPA, is a two-time recipient of the NCAA Elite 90 award for having the highest grade point average during NCAA Championship competition, earning the honor during the 2018 NCAA Outdoor and 2019 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Another academic award for Hite this season included being named first team Academic All-America in track and field by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In his senior campaign with the Aggies, Hite won the Texas Relays decathlon with a career best score of 7,774 points, claimed the SEC decathlon title (7,468), and earned second team All-America honors by placing 13th in the decathlon (7,348) at the NCAA Championships.
Next month Hite will contest his fourth decathlon of the season as a member of the United States team competing in the 2019 Pan American Games held in Lima, Peru.
