A murder arrest was made after the Brazos County Sheriff’s Department received a report of human remains were found Monday morning east of Bryan.

A news release from the Sheriff’s Department stated 26 year old Waldemar Monterroso of College Station was arrested Monday evening for murdering Jose Cua-Caxaj.

Lieutenant Tom Randall of the Brazos County Sheriff’s Department says they are presuming they have the correct identity of the almost fully decomposed remains.  That’s because Cua-Caxaj worked at Boston’s Restaurant and a Boston’s shirt was found near the body.

Comments from Lt. Tom Randall.

College Station Police received a missing person’s report last week regarding Cua-Caxaj.

The arrest report also noted the victim and suspect worked at the local Red Lobster.  Authorities found near the victim’s body a Red Lobster name tag with the name of “Valdemar”, the phonetic pronounciation of Waldemar.

Lt. Randall acknowledged moving quickly once the victim’s remains were found.

More from Lt. Randall.

The arrest report states the last time the suspect saw the victim was May 28th. Monterroso told a College Station detective Cua-Caxaj was highly intoxicated and on foot, walking from an apartment on Autumn Circle towards University Drive.

Monterroso is being held in the Brazos County Jail for immigration officials.  His bond from the arrest warrant was set at $100,000.

As for the discovery of the human remains, WTAW News reported Monday afternooon:

Sheriff’s Department Lieutenant Tom Randall says they were notified by a property owner, whose animals discovered the body in a dry creek bed in the area of Elmo Wheedon and Grassbur Roads.

The remains will be taken to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office in Austin for further review. That includes determining the person’s gender.

Lt. Randall says the state of decomposition was such that wildlife had removed pieces of the body.
