AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The number of Texas students taking the SAT college entrance exam is back on the rise after falling a year ago.
A report released Monday showed that Texas public schools had more than 123,000 graduating seniors take the exam, a more than 9 percent increase from a year ago. The rebound comes after the number of SAT takers in Texas dropped nearly 4 percent last year.
Average scores among Texas public school students remained virtually unchanged, and lagged behind the national averages.
The report from the College Board, which administers the exam, showed that average SAT scores held steady nationally as a record number of students took the test.
