Ray LaHood, former United States Secretary of Transportation, will be at Texas A&M University Bush School to give the 2015 ConocoPhillips White House Lecture on March 25. Known as a bipartisan leader and skilled conciliator, LaHood will speak on the challenges to governing in a highly partisan political environment.

LaHood will also receive the Good Governance Award which recognizes exemplary public service and raises the visibility of advanced and nonpartisan analysis in policymaking. The award is presented by the Mosbacher Institute for Trade, Economics, and Public Policy in the Bush School of Government and Public Service.

A lifelong Republican, LaHood served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 until his appointment as Secretary of Transportation in 2009. In Congress, LaHood became known as a skilled debater and negotiator. He served on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Appropriations Committee, where he won praise for being able to bridge sometimes bitter partisan divides in the Congress.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, beginning with a 5 p.m. reception and the lecture at 5:30 p.m. Due to limited seating, advance registration is required by Monday, March 23 via email to bushschoolmosbacher@tamu.edu or by phone: 979-845-1927.
