A Bryan man who led Brazos County sheriff’s deputies on two chases on Monday was apprehended after a deputy fired his Taser.
41 year old Fidel Benitez-Vega was arrested for evading in a vehicle, evading on foot, trespassing on private property, giving a false name, and misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
According to arrest reports from the sheriff’s office, a deputy wanted to stop Vega’s car for disregarding a traffic control device on Highway 21 near Highway 47.
The deputy said Vega’s car sped up before it stopped suddenly and Vega ran away.
About six hours later, a private citizen called 9-1-1 to report a man lying on the ground near Silver Hill Road and Goodson Bend.
That led to the second foot chase that ended with the Taser being fired.
Vega is also being held for immigration authorities.
