COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M senior Kelley Monogue was honored as both the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week and the SEC Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
Monogue lead A&M to wins against No. 18 UCF and Illinois State over the weekend. She tallied eight points on three goals and two assists as the Aggies combined to outscore two defending league regular-season champions by a combined 7-1 margin.
In Friday night’s decisive dismantling of the nationally ranked Knights, Monogue registered two goals and one assist to spearhead the 3-0 victory. Two days later, she helped keep the Aggies perfect on the season, logging one goal and one assist in a 4-1 in over the Redbirds.
With the goal against Illinois State, Monogue became the fifth player in school history to reach the 40-goal mark for a career. She is now three points shy of becoming the eighth player in school history to amass 100 career points.
It marked the first career SEC weekly award for Monogue, who garnered Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week once and Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on four occasions during her freshman campaign in 2011.
Monogue is a two-time all-conference performer, named All-Big 12 First Team in 2011 and All-SEC Second Team in 2013. Her early season form is matching that of her rookie campaign when she was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and earned Soccer America All-Freshman distinction.
Other recent Aggies to earn TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week honors include Liz Keester in November 2013 and Whitney Hooper in September 2009.
The Aggies are off to a 4-0-0 start for the fifth time in school history and the first time since 2003. Texas A&M returns to action this weekend with a pair of matches against Pac 12 opposition in Tempe, Arizona. The Maroon and White face Arizona on Friday evening and Arizona State on Sunday afternoon.
