Mom Leads Police on Three-County Pursuit

DALLAS (AP) _ Police frantically chased a woman speeding through three North Texas counties with two small children in the car with her.

Dallas County sheriff’s spokesman Kim Leach says the car was speeding in excess of 100 mph before police spike strips disabled her car.

The Navarro County Sheriff’s Office identifies the woman as Scarlett Gorden, mother of the 3- and 5-year-old children. Chief Deputy Mike Cox says Gorden’s mother and her children’s legal guardian, Angelena Armstrong, reported her daughter had taken them without permission Wednesday.

About 3 p.m. Wednesday, Ellis County deputies stopped Gorden, but she sped away and the chase was on.

Leach said the tire blowout in Plano forced Gorden to stop and surrender at 3:40 p.m. No injuries were reported.
