Mold At Brazos County’s Juvenile Justice Center Is Not As Bad As First Thought

Mold at Brazos County’s juvenile justice center is not as bad as first thought.

That was part of an update this week from county judge Duane Peters.

Five weeks ago, officials announced there was mold in three areas of the center.

Peters says after additional testing, mold was confirmed in two of the three initial locations.

One of the two areas went away after removing a plant.

Peters says moisture behind vinyl wallpaper created enough mold where some sheet rock will have to be removed.

County staff is in the process of finalizing a contract to remove the mold, the wallpaper, and clean air ducts.
