Mixed Reaction to Next Year’s College Station ISD Calendar

Class times in the College Station school district will change next year.

That’s after the school board this month unanimously adopted a calendar…the green option…that was recommended by all 20 members of the district’s educational improvement committee.

Deputy superintendent Greg McIntyre says CSISD elementaries next year will start five minutes earlier and end five minutes later.

Fifth through 12th grade buildings will start and end five minutes later next year.

McIntyre says the new times, to reflect new state laws determining the school year by instructional minutes instead of instructional days, will also help with bus routes.

The calendar approved by the board was also supported by 70 percent of 500 CSISD employees and community members who voted in an online survey of two options.

More than 1,500 parents who voted were almost evenly divided.

And 60 percent of high school students chose the other option.
