COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M rising junior pitcher AJ Minter has earned an invitation to compete for a roster spot on the nation’s premier summer collegiate team as the left-hander has been welcomed to take part in the USA Baseball Collegiate National training camp.
Camp will begin on June 19 with the squad playing games against collegiate summer league teams between June 21-30 as part of the Red, White and Blue Tour. The USA Baseball Collegiate National Team’s final 24-man roster will be set June 29, followed by a summer schedule that will include international friendship series against Chinese Taipei and Japan as well as a trip to Cuba and the Honkbal Haarlem Baseball Week in the Netherlands.
Minter was 3-0 with two saves as a sophomore, posting a 1.85 ERA and holding opponents to a .241 batting average. He made 26 appearances, logging 24 strikeouts in 24.1 innings.
Aggie head coach Rob Childress is serving as an assistant coach for the team. The squad will be skippered by Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn with assistance from Pepperdine’s Steve Rodriguez and New Mexico’s Ray Birmingham.
Last season Daniel Mengden represented the Aggies on the USA Collegiate National Team, pitching in six games, including one start, going 1-0 with a 1.35 ERA while striking out 11 in 13.1 innings.
