Last summer, the track at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan was closed to the public.

At the time, it was to replace the natural grass field to synthetic turf.

Earlier this month, the Bryan school board decided to continue public access to tracks at Rayburn, Long, and Stephen F. Austin schools.

Superintendent Tommy Wallis noted vandalism problems since the new surfaces at the football stadium and a practice field at Rudder High.

Athletics Director Harry Francis says they want to protect the new surface from not only vandalism but accidents and bad manners.

Tracks are open 24-7 for public use at Stephen F. Austin, Long, and Rayburn.

Board members asked administrators to find out the cost of installing lighting at Rayburn.
