BIRMINGHAM, Alabama – Texas A&M pitcher Daniel Mengden was one of 16 players named to the SEC All-Tournament Team as voted on by the media in attendance the league announced on Sunday evening.
Mengden delivered a complete-game performance in the Aggies’ tournament opening win over Florida. The northpaw allowed three runs, just one earned, scattering five hits and one walk while posting a career-high 11 strikeouts in the 6-3 victory. It was his second consecutive complete-game and his fourth consecutive win. In all four victories during the stretch, Mengden has allowed just one run while pitching at least 8.0 innings.
Third baseman Hunter Melton was a notable omission from the team despite being the only player to hit multiple home runs at the tournament and leading the Aggies with six RBI. He also delivered hits that gave A&M the lead in a game on four separate occasions. He was edged out by LSU’s Christian Ibarra.
LSU closer Chris Cotton was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
