Memorial Service for Still Creek Ranch’s Co-Founder

This Sunday, Still Creek Ranch will host a memorial service for its co-founder and longtime co-director, Margaret O’Quinn.

Earlier this month, O’Quinn died after being hospitalized for bacterial meningitis.

O’Quinn and her husband, Danny, founded Still Creek Ranch in 1988. They ran the home for abused, neglected and abandoned children for 24 years.

The O’Quinns, who were honored in 2009 with Jefferson Awards for their service to the community, moved to Folsom, New Mexico in 2012 where they helped start “The Children of Promise” camp for orphans and abused children.

Mandy Burlin, O’Quinn’s daughter, said her parents easily impacted over a thousand children’s lives. Burlin, who spent the last three years as the principal for Still Creek Ranch’s school, is now the Director of Fundraising and the voice of the home.

“Her legacy and her shoes are very big to fill. She was an amazing woman who was just ready to help everybody,” said Burlin.

Burlin and her siblings received an outpour of emails, Facebook messages, texts and phone calls after their mother passed. So they decided to host a memorial service and invite the public to honor O’Quinn’s life of service and generosity.

The memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at The Brazos County Expo Center. There will be an opportunity for people to share their experiences and love for O’Quinn.
