A McLennan County Commissioner Hasn’t Been At A Meeting Since Last September

WACO, Texas (AP) – A county commissioner in east-central Texas has now missed 16 meetings in a row.

The Waco Tribune-Herald reports that McLennan County Precinct 2 Commissioner Lester Gibson has attended 23 of the last 58 meetings and hasn’t made one this year. He last attended a commissioners meeting Sept. 19.

There are no attendance requirements for McLennan County commissioners, who make more than $96,000 a year.

Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Jones said in December it’s inevitable that commissioners will sometimes miss meetings. But he’s worried Gibson’s constituents aren’t being properly represented due to the extended absences.

Gibson maintained on Dec. 11 that he never missed more than two meetings in a row.

The commissioner has served on the court for nearly three decades. His term ends Dec. 31. He isn’t seeking re-election.
