DALLAS (AP) _ A person with direct knowledge of the deal says Dallas and Atlanta have agreed to a trade that will send third overall pick Luka Doncic to the Mavericks, who selected Trae Young at No. 5 for the Hawks.
The Mavericks will also send a future first-round pick to the Hawks as part of the deal, the person told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Thursday night because the trade had not been announced.
The Hawks selected Doncic, a versatile guard from Slovenia. He is expected to spend his rookie season as a teammate of Dirk Nowitzki, who plans to become the first player to spend all 21 seasons with the same franchise. Nowitzki, of Germany, is the highest-scoring European player in NBA history.
Young was a dynamic scorer in his only season at Oklahoma as one of the country’s best point guards.
