Howard, Harden push Rockets past LeBron-less Cavs 105-93

CLEVELAND (AP) _ James Harden scored 21 points, Dwight Howard had 17 points and 19 rebounds, and the Houston Rockets roared past Cleveland in the fourth quarter for a 105-93 win Wednesday night over the Cavaliers, who played their sixth straight game without LeBron James.

The Rockets broke away with a 15-5 run in the fourth and handed the Cavs their seventh loss in nine games. Corey Brewer made a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight consecutive points in Houston’s spree.

Kyrie Irving scored a season-high 38 and Kevin Love added 17 points and 16 rebounds for the Cavs, who lost their fourth straight at home. J.R. Smith didn’t score in 19 minutes in his Cleveland debut. The unpredictable guard was acquired earlier in the week from the Knicks along with guard Iman Shumpert.

James said he’s on target to return in a week from a strained back and knee.

 

PISTONS-MAVERICKS

Augustin scores 26, leads Pistons past Mavericks 108-95

DALLAS (AP) _ D.J. Augustin scored 17 of his season-high 26 points in the fourth quarter and the Detroit Pistons won their seventh straight game, 108-95 over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night.

The Pistons have the NBA’s longest current winning streak. They were 5-23 before starting the streak Dec. 26.

Dallas also had entered the game with a six-game winning streak.

The Mavericks, who did not lead in the game, pulled within 81-77 8:10 to play. Augustin then made two 3-point shots to increase the lead to 10 points. He did not start, and played only 22 minutes.

Greg Monroe led the Pistons with 27 points and had 18 rebounds. Brandon Jennings added 14 points, and Jodie Meeks had 11. Andre Drummond had a game-high 19 rebounds for Detroit, which outrebounded the Mavericks 60-43.

Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki scored 19 points, while Monta Ellis had 16, Chandler Parsons 15 and Devin Harris 14.
