Marijosse Navarro Earns Berth in this Week’s LPGA North Texas Shootout

IRVING- Texas A&M sophomore golfer Marijosse Navarro qualified for her second LPGA Tournament of 2015, earning a spot in this weekend’s Volunteers of America LPGA North Texas Shootout. She earned the berth in the tournament with a playoff victory in the College Shootout qualifier on Monday.

Navarro shot a 73 (+2) in the qualifying round at the par 71 / 6,462 yard Las Colinas Country Club, putting in a four-way tie for the second of two places in this weekend’s LPGA event (Apr. 30-May 3) at the same course. Navarro and Julie Beck of Texas survived the first playoff hole, but Navarro sank an eight-foot birdie putt to clinch her place in the tournament.

This is the second time in 2015 Navarro has qualified for an LPGA event. She qualified for the Kia Classic in Irvine, Calif. (Mar. 26-27), shooting a 155 (+7), but missing the cut.

Texas A&M teammate Maddie Szeryk also competed in the qualifier, finishing just one shot off the tie for second at 74 (+3). Szeryk, a freshman from Allen, competed in the North Texas Shootout a year ago as a high school qualifier.

Maddie McCray of Oklahoma State won the qualifier with a 68 (-3). The Golf Channel televises the Volunteers of America North Texas Shootout, with coverage beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 30.
