Marcus Wortham Named Interim Head Basketball Coach For Allen Academy

Over the past seven weeks, a five-member Allen search committee facilitated a search for the Interim Head Basketball Coach.  After bringing finalists to campus, the committee incorporated input from all constituent groups, including Allen faculty, parents, and students, as well as local respected coaches and referees and came to a unanimous decision.

We are excited to announce that on July 29, 2015, Mr. Marcus Wortham was appointed Interim Head Basketball Coach.  Marcus’s coaching experience, his knowledge of the area, and his energy and passion for his student athletes are a great match for our school.

Marcus comes to us from Calvert High School, where he was the Athletic Director, head football coach, head basketball coach, and head track coach.  Coach Wortham experienced tremendous success in his coaching career at Calvert and took six of his teams to state appearances in the past four years. As a basketball coach, Marcus’s teams earned a combined record of 170-32. In a seven-year span, his teams won six district championships, made three regional appearances, two state appearances, and captured one state championship.

In accepting his appointment, Marcus said, “I am honored to be welcomed into the Allen Academy Family. I am here to be a leader, role model and coach for our kids. Thank you for accepting me in your family.”

Coach Wortham will also serve as an assistant football coach in the fall and assistant track coach in the spring.

I hope you will join me in welcoming Coach Wortham, his wife, Sara, and their children to the Allen family.

Sincerely,

Jason Jolly

Interim Athletic Director
