Maloney Talks Cameras and Mass Transit

College Station City Council member Dennis Maloney was on the afternoon show Monday to cover his view on red light cameras, as well as a few other topics.

Maloney says he supports keeping red light cameras in College Station both because the data shows they increase safety and because he has seen improvements while driving around town for his work.

He says he values the right of citizens to vote on the issue, but for him it simply comes down to “don’t run a red light and you won’t get a ticket.”

One concern of some opposed to the cameras has been the appeals process, which does not include the option of a jury trial.

Maloney says if voters choose to keep the red light cameras he would be in favor of forming some type of citizen commission to serve as an extra level of appeal if both the law enforcement officer and municipal judge felt your camera ticket was justified.

When asked what his top Council priority for the year ahead would be, Maloney responded that some type of mass transit/public transportation system would be at or near the top of the list.
