Magnolia Shootings, Fire Ruled Murder-Suicide

MAGNOLIA, Texas (AP) _ Authorities say they believe a woman fatally shot her husband and set their Houston-area house on fire before turning the gun on herself.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday identified the dead as 64-year-old Floyd Meeks and his wife of 20 years, 65-year-old Nancy Meeks.

Lt. Dan Norris says firefighters responding to the blaze Tuesday found Floyd Meeks dead in the front yard of the home in Magnolia, located about 50 miles northwest of Houston. He had multiple gunshot wounds in his torso and leg.

Nancy Meeks was found in the house with a single gunshot wound to her head. She was taken to a local hospital where she later died.

Norris said investigators believe the retirees’ deaths were a murder-suicide but will continue examining evidence.
