News release from the Texas Department of Public Safety:
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers are investigating a two vehicle crash at IH-45 and SH-75 in Madison County involving a Madisonville Independent School District bus.
At approximately 4:06 p.m., Friday, a 2016 Toyota Camry was stopped at a stop sign at the intersection of IH-45 Frontage Road and SH-75.
The Camry pulled away from the stop sign on the Frontage Road and into the path of the northbound school bus, which was on SH-75.
The school bus was loaded with 18 students.
After the vehicles collided, the school bus continued traveling north on SH-75, striking a guardrail, then rolling over onto its driver side.
The driver of the bus and 16 students were transported to area hospitals for treatment; one student was transported by helicopter to McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple.
The ages of the students ranged from 6 to eighteen years of age; the school district has notified parents of the involved children.
A passenger in the Toyota was also transported by ambulance for medical treatment; the driver was not transported.
At this time, none of the injuries in the crash appear to be life-threatening.
This crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
