Low Income Families Can Receive Free Tax Preparation

This year, Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley and Brazos Valley Council of Governments are managing the 2012 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program in the Brazos Valley.  The purpose of the VITA sites is to help low to moderate-income families have their taxes prepared for free.

This free service has grown each year with the assistance of volunteers who are certified by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to prepare tax returns electronically.  If a family earned less than $50,000 in 2011 they could qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit up to $5,751.00.

The Brazos County tax site is at the Center for Regional Services on E. 29th. It is open until April 12, 2012 and operates Tuesday and Thursday nights from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Washington County tax site is at St. Mary’s in Brenham and is open Wednesday mornings until April 11, 2012.

To see if you qualify and make your appointment call 2-1-1, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 pm.
