A&M President Bowen Loftin

Texas A&M University President Dr. R. Bowen Loftin has released a statements reinterating that A&M’s search for a new football coach in ongoing and that Athletics Director Bill Byrne will consider multiple candidates.

Premature and incorrect media reports out of Houston Saturday reported that University of Houston Coach Kevin Sumlin would be hired within 24 hours.
Here is Loftin’s statement:

“Texas A&M is committed to identifying the best football coach to lead the university into the Southeastern Conference next season. Athletic Director Bill Byrne is leading this process, in which we are considering multiple candidates for this important position. We are working to conclude this process as expeditiously as possible; however, finding the right candidate for Texas A&M is paramount over any prescribed timeline. Additionally, we do not intend for this process to be played out in the media or social networks in order to protect the candidates and the university.”

A&M is searching for a replacement for Mike Sherman, who was fired on Thursday following a 6-6 season.
