Local Observance of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial

Monday’s local observance of the annual National Fallen Firefighters memorial service took on added meaning.

Bells signaling the last call were played in honor of 20 Texas firefighters and 106 around the country who died last year.

Names that were read included Bryan’s Greg Pickard and Eric Wallace, who lost their lives in the Knights of Columbus Hall fire in February of 2013.

College Station fire chief Eric Hurt noted that was one of three fire events nationwide where there were multiple deaths…and they all took place in Texas.

In addition to Bryan, there were also multiple casualties last year in West and Houston.

There will be a national service in Washington D.C. a week from Sunday, October 12.
