Joint news release from the Bryan, College Station, and Texas A&M police departments and the Brazos County sheriff’s office:

We are all deeply saddened by the news of Harris County Sheriff’s Deputy Darren Goforth’s tragic death. Our local communities, as well as law enforcement across the State of Texas know too well the inherent dangers of this profession.

In an effort to show solidarity and support for the men and women who serve and protect our community, Governor Greg Abbott has asked the state’s law enforcement officers to activate red and blue emergency lights on all patrol vehicles for one minute, starting at 11 a.m. Friday, September 4th, 2015, which is the beginning time of Deputy Goforth’s funeral.

All local law enforcement will participate in this display of support. Any available patrol vehicle, not currently on a call for service, will become stationary off the public roadways to activate their emergency lights at 11 a.m. this Friday.

We consider ourselves blessed to have such great support from our communities. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Goforth family.
