There is no such thing as an innocent bystander when it comes to bullying. Local elementary students are helping an A&M research team figure out why bystanders choose not to intervene when they witness an act of bullying.
Dr. Jamilia Blake and her team collaborated with child actors from the Brazos Valley Troupe to produce a video, which will be shown to a group of 4th graders in the College Station Kids Klub program. The video showcases different bullying situations with both positive and negative bystander reactions.
Dr. Blake said after they receive feedback from the 4th graders, they want to use a group of students from Creekview Elementary to create a final video on bullying, which will be shown at Kids Klub programs throughout College Station.
Dr. Blake said her team anticipates that watching older students defending victims will give bystanders the courage to defend victims too.
