Local Hotel Tax Money Could Help Fund Kyle Field Project

By the end of September, officials at Texas A&M University are supposed to have results of two studies regarding the future of Kyle Field.

Among the questions is finding the money. Bryan City Councilman Chuck Konderla, who sits on the executive board of the Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), says they’ve talked about how to respond if A&M requests financial assistance.

Konderla says one source is the hotel-motel tax fund. But he doesn’t see the amount being the $35 million approved by the Waco City Council for Baylor’s new stadium.

WTAW’s Scott DeLucia visits with Chuck Konderla.

The CVB and Chamber of Commerce hired a firm to research the local economic impact of home football games.

And earlier this week, the 12th Man Foundation sent members and those who have purchased tickets a link asking for their priorities and their level of financial committment to improvements.

A&M Vice President of Marketing and Communications Jason Cook says they will have conversations with those he calls “community partners” once they have finished compiling their information.
