Local Electric Companies Still Investigating Cause of Saturday Power Outage

What started a fire that led to a Saturday power outage affecting Bryan and College Station remains under investigation.

BTU reported 3,400 customers lost electricity and College Station Utilities 3,000, all served from the shared Greens Prairie substation.

Timothy Crabb at College Station Utilities says a fire damaged BTU equipment.

Crabb says power returned to some customers sooner, by repair crews who went out in the field. It took longer for others, until the fire was extinguished.

After power was restored to everyone, it took another five hours at the substation to complete repairs.

Timothy Crabb visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
