Tuesday update:
There is at least one candidate for all three openings in this November’s election for College Station city council.
That’s after Bob Brick filed for the seat presently occupied by his wife, Blanche Brick, who is not eligible to run again due to term limits.
Original story:
It is time for those who are interested in running for school board and city council in this November’s Bryan and College Station elections to file.
Both incumbents to the Bryan city council have filed for re-election. Greg Owens has served single member district three since 2012, when he won a special election to fill an unexpired term. And Mike Southerland is running again for single member district four.
Southerland is also part of the “Bryan New Directions” political action committee that continues to solicit signatures to ask voters to make ten changes to the city charter.
There will be at least two new members to the College Station city council, as Blanche Brick and Julie Schultz are completing their second consecutive term. Linda Harvell, who is completing the final year of an unexpired term, has filed for her first full term. And the first to file for Schultz’s seat is former councilman John Nichols, who left the governing body last year to run for mayor.
One of two incumbents has filed for re-election to the College Station school board. That is Michael Schaefer, who is seeking his second term. This year’s other opening on the CSISD board is currently held by Valerie Jochen.
And the longest serving member of the Bryan school board, David Stasny, has filed for his tenth term. Also up for election is the board’s newest member. Julie Harlin…who was appointed last November to fill an unexpired term. According to her Facebook page, Doctor Harlin intends to seek a full term.
