Lawmaker Blasts Regents for Chancellor Snub

SAN ANTONIO (AP) _ A San Antonio lawmaker is angry that the Texas State University System didn’t pick him for the job of chancellor.

Republican state Sen. Jeff Wentworth fired off a letter this week saying Texas State regents wrongly snubbed him in favor of a “Johnny-come-lately opportunist” in choosing former state Rep. Brian McCall.

McCall was named chancellor in April. Wentworth stewed for about six weeks before sending his letter to regents Chairman Ron Blatchley on Monday.

Wentworth wrote that he was “personally offended” that his support for higher education at the Capitol apparently counted for so little.

He told the San Antonio Express-News that he had no regrets about the letter.
