It will be anywhere between four and six months before a recommendation is made about the current appeal of a death row inmate from College Station. District Judge Travis Bryan heard four and a half days of testimony last week. The hearing was dominated by the latest lawyers for 30 year old John Thuesen, who claim he did not receive adequate representation during his original trial and his first round of appeals. Thuesen was given the death penalty for killing his girlfriend and her brother five years ago. The record of what happened last week will be transcribed in Austin, which will take a month or two. Then it will be another three or four months before local prosecutors and Thuesen’s lawyer file more paperwork and make final oral arguments to Judge Bryan. The judge will issue a recommendation to the court of criminal appeals.

In another criminal case, the district attorney’s office has announced a plea agreement involving a College Station man who admitted to punching a policeman while high on PCP last November. The officer was treated for a cut to the cornea. 31 year old Thomas Richardson, who was naked and had trashed an apartment, was taken into custody after he was shot twice with a taser. Richardson was sentenced to eight years in prison. He has been in the Brazos County Jail since last December when he was arrested for violating parole.
