Larranaga Named AP Coach of the Year, Burke Named Player of the Year

ATLANTA (AP) _ Miami’s Jim Larranaga has been selected as The Associated Press
college basketball coach of the year after leading the Hurricanes to the most
successful season in school history culminating with a spot in the NCAA Sweet
Sixteen. In only his second season, Larranaga guided Miami to its first ACC
regular season and tournament titles, a No. 2 ranking and a 29-7 record.

ATLANTA (AP) _ Michigan’s Trey Burke is the overwhelming choice as The
Associated Press college basketball player of the year. The sophomore guard
picked up 31 of the 65 votes from a national media panel. Burke is the guiding
force behind the Wolverines spot in the Final four, averaging over 19 points a
game and shooting over 40 percent from 3-point range.
