Friday was the last day for Lance Jackson after 30 years at College Station’s Lincoln Recreation Center, the last 23 as supervisor.
His departure comes the month after the former Texas A&M football standout earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation, park and tourism sciences.
In a podcast from the city of College Station, Jackson said he “appreciated everybody that ever came through that door (of the center)”. “But it is time to try something different. And I guarantee you whatever opportunity (I get), I’ll make you extremely proud.”
Among Jackson’s memories are nearly the completion of the center’s master plan, serving evacuees of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and a genealogy project resulting in a large family reunion at the center.
Jackson hopes to see the continued growth of the center’s facilities for multi-generational uses. He is also interested in College Station creating more recreation centers.
Assistant supervisor Cheletia Johnson, who has been in that position the last 12 years, will take over on an interim basis until a successor is hired.
