IRVING, Texas (AP) _ AAA Texas expects about 2.8 million people across the state will travel over the long Labor Day holiday weekend.
AAA on Wednesday estimated that 39.1 million people will travel at least 50 miles from home between Thursday, Sept. 3 and Monday, Sept. 7. That’s six million fewer travelers nationwide than last year, but it’s more than the number of travelers who took to the roads from 2004 to 2007.
IHS Global Insight, which conducted the survey on behalf of AAA, noted that Labor Day this year falls on Sept. 7, two weeks after most Texas children have returned to school.
AAA says the average price a year ago for self-serve regular gasoline was $3.68 a gallon, about $1 more that current prices.
