Kyler Murray Signs With Oklahoma

NORMAN — Former Texas A&M quarterback Kyler Murray has signed a financial aid agreement with Oklahoma and will join the Sooners’ football program starting with the 2016 spring semester, OU head coach Bob Stoops announced Thursday.

Murray, who is from Allen, Texas, and was the 2014-15 National Gatorade Football Player of the Year as a senior at Allen High School, played eight games as a freshman at Texas A&M this season and made three starts. He amassed 1,021 yards of total offense (686 passing and 335 rushing) on the year and completed 72 of 121 pass attempts (59.5 percent) with five touchdowns and seven interceptions.

“We’re very happy to welcome Kyler to our program and we look forward to working with him,” said Stoops, the 2015 Big 12 Coach of the Year.

Murray’s three starts this season came in consecutive home games against South Carolina (Oct. 31), Auburn (Nov. 7) and Western Carolina (Nov. 14). He completed 20 of 28 pass attempts against the Gamecocks for 223 yards and a touchdown while adding 156 rushing yards and a TD on 20 carries in a 35-28 win. Against Auburn, Murray was 13 for 23 through the air for 105 yards while adding 37 rushing yards on eight carries in a 26-10 loss. And in a 41-17 victory over Western Carolina, he went 22 for 39 passing for 191 yards and three scores, and rushed seven times for 50 yards.

On the season, Murray averaged 6.3 yards per rush, most on the team among players who totaled at least 20 carries.

Recruited by Oklahoma in high school, Murray was 43-0 as Allen’s starting quarterback and led the Eagles to three state championships. He was a five-star recruit by ESPN (No. 13 player overall), 247Sports (No. 30) and Scout (No. 37), and was a four-star recruit by Rivals (No. 71).

As a senior, Murray threw for 4,713 yards and 54 touchdowns while rushing for 1,485 yards and 25 scores in leading Allen to a 16-0 record.
