Kyler Murray Commits to Texas A&M

Kyler Murray, the nation’s top ranked dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2015 according to 247Sports, has committed to Texas A&M.

Murray announced his decision on Wednesday at a press conference in Allen, where he has led the Eagles to back-to-back 5A state championships. Passing for more than 5,600 yards and 63 touchdowns, and rushing for more than 2,600 yards and 44 touchdowns.

Murray is the son of Aggie great Kevin Murray, who quarterbacked the Aggies from 1983 to 1986, racking up 6,500 yards and 48 touchdowns. He left A&M as the program’s winningest quarterback.

Kyler Murray holds offers from a who’s who of traditional powerhouses such as Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, Texas and Notre Dame. In the end though, the decision came down to A&M and Oregon.

“I’ll be attending Texas A&M University,” said Murray, citing the relationships he had with the coaches there.

His verbal commitment is non-binding, and Kyler Murray cannot officially sign with the Aggies until next February.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Murray spent a minute thanking his parents, coaches, players and the universities who recruited him before making his announcement as family, friends and his teammates cheered.

Murray has already drawn comparisons to former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel. Manziel’s college decision also came down to a battle between Texas A&M and Oregon. Manziel originally committed to Oregon the summer before his senior season before switching to the Aggies during the year.

While the future of the A&M quarterback position looks bright, the Aggies do not currently have a starter. The quarterback battle to replace Manziel is ongoing. Currently, quarterbacks Kenny Hill and Kyle Allen are competing for the starting job for next season. According to 247Sports, Hill was a top ten dual-threat quarterback in the class of 2013 while Allen, a pro-style quarterback, was the top ranked quarterback in the country in the class of 2014.
